The Wyndham Salt Lake City has become the Prime Hotel Salt Lake City Convention Center with the conversion of the property to the Prime Hotels & Resorts brand.
The Salt Lake hotel, 215 W. South Temple, is the first of a dozen Wyndham properties that during the next two months will switch to the Prime brand, controlled by Prime Hospitality Corp. of Fairfield, N.J.
The Salt Lake hotel is the fourth hotel with the Prime brand. When the Wyndham conversions are completed, the chain will have 15 properties, including those in Atlanta, Seattle, San Diego, northern New Jersey and Phoenix markets. The Wyndhams have 2,321 rooms and 48,229 square feet of meeting space. The Salt Lake hotel has 381 guest rooms and seven suites, plus 15,000 square feet of meeting space.
The High Rock Steakhouse will replace Shula's Steak House at the hotel.
Prime Hospitality launched the Prime brand in January 2003 and expanded it with the rebranding of two Radisson Hotel & Suites.
In December, the company entered into a management agreement with Hospitality Properties Trust for 24 AmeriSuites hotels and 12 full-service Wyndham hotels to be re-branded under the Prime chain.
Prime Hospitality owns, manages, develops and franchises more than 250 hotels throughout North America. It owns and operates three proprietary brands: AmeriSuites, Prime Hotels & Resorts and Wellesley Inn & Suites. Also in its portfolio are owned or managed hotels operated under franchise agreements with national hotel chains including Hilton, Sheraton, Hampton and Holiday Inn.
Prime recently reported a net loss during the first quarter of $2.9 million, or 6 cents per share, which compares with a loss of $6.6 million, or 15 cents per share, for the 2003 first quarter. Revenues before cost reimbursements grew $14.2 million year over year to $102.8 million through the addition of 12 full-service hotels in January.
