Flatiron Constructors, managing joint venture partner of SLC Rail Constructors, won the Design Build Institute of America's 2004 Design Build in Transportation Award for the construction of Salt Lake City's University Light Rail Transit Extension.

Flatiron extended the city's light rail system 2.5 miles, connecting downtown Salt Lake City with the University of Utah's Rice Eccles Stadium. The company completed the $42 million project one year ahead of schedule, in time for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
