Northrop Grumman Space and Mission Systems Corp. of Clearfield has awarded an $11.2 million subcontract to St. Louis-based Engineered Support Systems Inc. related to a Minuteman project. The initial funding is about $3.2 million.

Engineered Support Systems will be involved in the second phase of the Minuteman environmental control system replacement program. The company's Engineered Air Systems subsidiary had previously designed, built and installed the systems beginning in the early 1960s.

The program includes the replacement and upgrade of the air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems in 560 Minuteman launch facilities and missile alert facilities located throughout the United States with modern, more efficient equipment. Phase II involves environmental design and development work and is expected to be completed by December 2005.
