OREM — Wednesday's second round playoff game against Cyprus was supposed to be one of the tougher tests of the year for Timpanogos. It looked like the No. 1 Timberwolves were finally facing somebody that could give them a challenge.

Instead, Cyprus joined the growing list of victims as Timpanogos notched a 12-0 win behind 13 hits and a brilliant game from ace hurler Mac Nelson.

"I told (the team) that this had the signs of Wrigley Field here today," T-Wolves coach Kim Nelson said. "I didn't expect them to take that literally. That's as good as we've swung the bat all year."

Timpanogos' attack was so quick that latecomers missed it. Nelson's team already had a home run, two triples and a double by the end of the second inning. But the real domination took place on the mound.

Nelson recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed just one hit, while never giving Cyprus a chance to keep the game close.

His only miscues came in the fourth inning when, after giving up his only hit of the game on a single, he hit two batters in a row to load the bases.

"That was just a mental lapse," Nelson said. "I just didn't stay focused that inning."

Nelson followed with three straight strikeouts to end the inning and squelch the Pirates' only threat.

"I've never felt so pumped up before a game," Nelson said. "I've heard a lot about Cyprus and how well they've been hitting. It just got me pumped up."

Ryder Olsen started off the T-Wolves with an RBI triple in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Jace Bramwell led off the second inning with another triple and Tyson Ford followed with a deep home run to left field. Alex Lyons came to the plate minutes later with a runner on second and hit an RBI single to deep right field.

Most of the damage was done in the third inning when Alex Wolf smashed another two-run homer. Another run scored on a shortstop error and two more runs came home on a double by Tyson Gonzales and an RBI single by Alex Lyons.

Austin Heaps finished off the scoring with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

"My biggest worry is that we're going to let our guard down," coach Nelson said. "This is what you play for in the season. This is the time to finish it out."
