Two men allegedly preparing to make a batch of methamphetamine were arrested Thursday morning in Salt Lake County.

Detectives served a search warrant early Thursday at a house near 1300 East and 4300 South. Inside, they found precursor chemicals being prepared for meth-making, although not an actual lab.

One of those chemicals was red phosphorous. Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputy Curtis Beller said when that chemical is in the "separation" process, or being prepared to make meth, it is highly flammable and the potential for an explosion was high.

There were enough chemicals in the house to make a couple of ounces of meth, he said.

In addition to precursor chemicals, detectives also found a small amount of finished meth from a previous cook and drug paraphernalia. Both men were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of various drug related charges.
