1924 ~ 2004
Melvin Budd Park, 79, passed away on May 12, 2004.
He was born on September 20, 1924 in Murray, Utah to John Sidrick Park and Stannie Amelia Burt Park. He married Margaret Inez Hudson on May 20, 1950 in Elko, Nevada and later their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Budd was an active member of the LDS Church. He served LDS Missions to the North Central States and later to Atlanta, Georgia with his companion Margaret. He graduated from Granite High School and Salt Lake Technical Trade School in Barbering. He cut hair part time for many years. Budd was employed by Tooele Army Depot, D&RGW Railroad and Kennecott Copper Corporation retiring from Kennecott after 28 years.
He served his country in the US Army in New Guinea and was a Disabled American Veteran of World War II. Budd was a long-time and avid University of Utah football and basketball fan. He proudly wore the Crimson Red. He also loved the Utah Jazz Basketball team. His love of baseball drew him to work in the Kearns Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball programs. Gardening, reading and crafts were other hobbies that he loved.
Budd is survived by his wife, Margaret and his sons and daughter: Randy (Peggy), Greg (Lori), Bill (Terri), Todd (Diane), Melanie, Lynn (Sharon), and Jeff (April); 23 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Beth (Joseph) Smith; and one brother, Craig (Barbara). He was preceded in death by four brothers: Max, Burt, Claude and Wayne.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the Medical Intensive Care staff at Veterans Administration Medical Center and Wentworth Assisted Living Center for their friendship and care.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 17th, 11:00 a.m. at the Meadowview First Ward, 4575 West 5415 South. Family and friends may visit Sunday, May 16th, 7-9 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and again Monday at the church, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
