1917 ~ 2004

Dr. Harlow Gill Richards, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at his home on May 12, 2004.

He was born in Salt Lake City on May 22, 1917 to Dr. George Gill Richards and Florence Farnsworth Richards. He married Genevieve Blanche Chesnel in Salt Lake City on June 25, 1946.

A life-long scholar, Harlow graduated from West High School where he excelled at both academics and sports, receiving the Salt Lake Tribune Honor Award for Scholarship and Leadership. He then graduated with honors from Stanford University in 1938, which was followed by graduation from Harvard Medical School in 1942. Harlow served his medical internship at Cincinnati General Hospital.

A true patriot, Harlow served his country during World War II in both the European and Pacific theatres. Upon his return, he finished his medical residency at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan and then established a successful practice in internal medicine at the Salt Lake Clinic, retiring in 1982.

His love of learning continued throughout his life as he looked for ways to both challenge himself and serve others. After retiring he spent a great deal of time tutoring children in reading. A 50-year member of the Salt Lake Rotary Club, Harlow received the highest service honors of being named both a Paul Harris Fellow and a Richard L. Evans Fellow. He was an avid tennis player. His love of books and literature was shared with all who knew him. Music was an important part of his life and he used his talents to play the harmonica, piano and other instruments. He was a member of the LDS Church.

He is survived by his wife and five children, Ronald Chesnel Richards, Shari (Richard) Creer, Michael Gill (Christine) Richards, Quentin Farnsworth Richards, Teri (Robert) Jenson, sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Hope Burton.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 17 at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Deseret Foundation in Harlow's name. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
