FIVE NAMED TO TEAM USA: The NBA's last two rookies of the year — LeBron James and Amare Stoudemire — were among five players added to this year's U.S. Olympic men's basketball team, along with New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury, New Jersey Nets forward Richard Jefferson and Phoenix Suns forward Shawn Marion.
Withdrawing from the team were guards Ray Allen of the Seattle Supersonics and Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. Allen cited a personal family matter; Bryant still faces trial on a sexual assault charge in Colorado.
Already on the Olympic rosters were two-time gold medalist Karl Malone, 2000 gold medalist Jason Kidd, two-time NBA MVP Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson, Jermaine O'Neal, Tracy McGrady and Mike Bibby.
Kidd, Malone, McGrady and Bibby are all reconsidering their decision to play in Athens. Possible replacements include Sam Cassell, Ron Artest, Carmelo Anthony and Lamar Odom.
EARLY ENTRY DRAFT CANDIDATES: Thirteen high school players were among the 94 who filed as early entry candidates for the NBA draft.
Forty-three college underclassmen, including all four eligible members of The Associated Press' All-America team, also submitted their letters by May 10, the NBA announced Friday.
The players have the right to withdraw their names from the list by notifying the NBA by June 17, one week before the draft is held in Madison Square Garden.
Any college players who have not signed with an agent can return to their school and not lose their eligibility.
The All-Americans who filed were Emeka Okafor of Connecticut, Lawrence Roberts of Mississippi State, Ryan Gomes of Providence and Josh Childress of Stanford, The fifth All-American, Jameer Nelson of Saint Joseph's, was a senior.
Thirty-eight international players were on the list.
L.A. WIN EARNS HIGH RATINGS: The Los Angeles Lakers' last-second win over the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night was the highest-rated game of the playoffs for ABC.
The game, which ended when Derek Fisher hit a turnaround 18-footer at the buzzer to give the Lakers a 74-73 win, earned a national rating of 6.0 with a 10 share.
The rating is the percentage of all homes with TVs, whether or not they are in use. The share is the percentage of homes with sets in use.
