Residents of the Avenues and Capitol Hill neighborhoods, and anyone with the will to work, are invited to participate today in the 10th annual Memory Grove Service Cleanup Day to clear the area of many felled trees and overgrown brush accumulated during the winter season.
Volunteers are asked to gather at Memory Grove, up Canyon Road and off the west end of Second Avenue, from 9 a.m. to noon, where Salt Lake City Parks employees will supervise the effort and direct volunteers to various sites in need of cleanup. A sandwich lunch will then be provided to volunteers by LDS Food Services and the Greater Avenues Community Council, in partnership with Salt Lake City.
More than a dozen churches and businesses are committing resources, such as drinks, food, tools and personnel to the project. The project is an annual effort that draws hundreds of residents together to clean up the popular public park area.
