- Johanna Bruesch Schmidt, 101, passed away May 13, 2004 at a local care facility.

She was the first child born to Franz Johannes Albert Bruesch and Minna Marie Amalie Kirschoff September 6, 1902 in Stettlin, Pommern, Germany.

Johanna was raised and educated in Germany. In 1928, at the age of 26, she and her sister emigrated to the US. They first lived with friends in New York and New Jersey. They later went by train to be with their uncle and his family in Salt Lake City. While there she met and married Walter Schmidt May 16, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had one daughter.

In 1945, their family moved to Nampa, ID and lived there for 12 years, when they returned to Salt Lake City. She worked as a dressmaker, free-lance dressmaking and later did alterations. She worked for Maycoff Co., Paris Co., and Auerbach Co. in Salt Lake.

She was an active member the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed being with her family. Some of her fondest moments were visiting family and friends in her homeland.

Johanna is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Dale) S. Bybee of Pocatello; three grandchildren; 21 great-grand-children; and six great great-grand-children. She is preceded in death by her sister, Elfreida Haehle; twin brothers, Werner and Erwin Bruesch.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2004, at Colonial Funeral Chapel, 2005 So. 4 th

Ave. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. The interment will follow at Mountainview Cemetery.
