Auditions are scheduled for the following stage productions and performing arts groups:

"THE WIZARD OF OZ," on Wednesday for adults, 16 years of age and up, and on Thursday for boys and girls, 8-16 years old, from 7-9 p.m. both days, for the Sandy Arts Guild production, directed by Ernie Doose. Callbacks, if necessary, will be May 22.

Be prepared to sing 16 bars of an upbeat Broadway style song. An accompanist will be provided (please, no recorded music). There will also be cold readings from the script and, possibly, a dance combination (Beverly Barrett, Sandy Arts Guild, 563-8387).

THE UTAH ARTS COUNCIL is accepting applications from experienced performers who wish to be considered for the annual Utah Performing Arts Tour roster. Artists in music, dance and theater styles who are chosen for the program will be eligible for subsidized bookings throughout the state.

Each performance will include a featured concert and an educational outreach program.

Thursday is the deadline for submitting a written application and demo tape/CD or scheduling a live audition (236-7545 or the UAC Web site at arts.utah.gov/csp/upatseason.html)

VOLUNTEER LDS ACTORS are invited to audition on Saturday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., for two church-produced pioneer plays, "I Went on My Way Rejoicing," a musical, and "The Long Walk of Patience Loader," a drama.

If auditioning for the musical, be prepared to sing a hymn or a ballad.

The musical has a cast of seven men and six women, all 17-70 years of age, and six boys and girls, 8-16. Families are invited to audition together. Performances are July 20-21 in the Conference Center Theater.

The drama has a cast of eight men, two young men, two women and three young women, with performances July 23 and 24.

"OLIVER!," on Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon, at Terrace Plaza Playhouse, 99 E. 4700 South, Ogden. All roles are open. Come prepared to sing 16 measures of an upbeat song. No accompanist will be provided; bring your own CD or tape. There will also be cold readings from the script. Carolyn J. Stephens is directing. "FIDDLER ON THE ROOF," Saturday, 9-11 a.m., and May 25, 6-8 p.m., at the Heritage Community Theatre, 2505 S. Highway 89, Perry. Melanie Nelson Day is directing.

There are roles for 20-30 performers, ranging from 7 to 75 years of age. Families with children are encouraged to audition and participate together. Come prepared with a song from a Broadway show and to read from the script. Rehearsals begin July 13. Play dates are Sept. 3-25. Those unable to attend the two audition sessions may call the director to make other arrangements (801-392-9371).
