As I watch the various military units return from Iraq to flag-draped streets and fire truck parades, I think back to 1967 when I returned from a year serving in the Vietnam theater.

We returned with no fanfare whatsoever. The only privilege awarded military men was being allowed to fly commercial, half-fare/standby if we were in uniform. Then, as the war dragged on, we were advised not to wear our uniforms in public.

My, times have changed.
