One in three people will develop cancer at some point, a sobering thought that Jeff Warren, a Centerville businessman, competitive cyclist and cancer survivor, wants everyone to take seriously.
Warren and Scott Anderson, president and chief executive officer at Zions Bank, are part of a new ad campaign lauding the opening of the Huntsman Cancer Hospital this summer.
Part of the campaign touts the opportunity to support the center by taking advantage of "naming opportunities" throughout the hospital. People can also buy memorial bricks to pave the walkway outside the building.
The Huntsman Cancer Institute is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in the Intermountain West and is one of 19 members of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. The new hospital is the only cancer-specialty hospital in the five-state region of Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Wyoming.
The public will get its first glimpse of the new hospital on Saturday, June 26. For information, call 801-587-7681 or go to www.huntsmancancer.org online. Requirements and applications for volunteer positions are also available on the Web site.
The 276,344-square-foot, 50-bed hospital is just north of the existing research institute, to which it is joined by enclosed glass walkways. It boasts features not available elsewhere in the region, including a combination PET/CT scanner that characterizes both the anatomy and metabolism of a tumor.
