Cache County sheriff's deputies were honored Friday at the department's annual awards banquet. The event is held annually during National Law Enforcement Week, which is set aside to recognize the work of law enforcement, especially those officers who died in the line of duty.
Sheriff G. Lynn Nelson recognized officers from each of his department's three divisions — jail, support services and patrol — and three citizens for their efforts over the past year, according to a sheriff's office press release. A video presentation during the ceremony recapped the opening of Cache County's new jail and public safety complex. Deputies and civilian employees also presented Nelson with an appreciation award and named the jail pod after him.
Those honored include: Sgt. Bob Gaydo, president's award; deputy Erin Griffith, Monte G. Coleman distinguished service award; Transition Team, outstanding achievement; deputy Jean DeGasser, outstanding achievement; Lt. Chad Jensen and Sgt. Paul Todd, outstanding achievement; Brent Powell, STAR deputy of the year; Holly Black, Joseph Wambaugh Report Writing Award; Wyatt Goring, employee of the year; Sgt.
