RENO, Nev. (AP) — Dr. John A. McDonald, chief of medicine at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salt Lake City, has been named dean of the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He also is vice chairman and professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah.
McDonald also will serve as the school's vice president for health sciences, university officials announced Thursday.
He will receive an annual salary of $350,000 when he assumes the position July 6. McDonald has a medical degree from Duke University and a doctorate in biochemistry from Rice University.
He succeeds Dr. Stephen McFarlane, who has served as interim dean for a little over two years. McFarlane will take a one-year leave and then return to the University of Nevada, Reno, as a faculty member in the Department of Speech Pathology.
