Will Be Missed
Bessie Elvera Wonnacott Lund, 96, died Sunday, May 9, 2004.
Bessie was the third child of James Edwin Wonnacott and Charlotte Emily Norris, emigrants from England in the 1890's. She is predeceased by her husband, and oldest son.
Bessie married William Conrad Lund June 19, 1927. They had been married 67 years when William passed away in 1994.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Wm. E. and Mary Jo Lund, of Valley Center, CA, and Terry and Sandi Lund of Cave Junction; daughter, Patricia Leavitt of Richand, WA; 22 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
Bessie grew up in Midvale, Thistle, Soldier Summit, and Springville, Utah. She was educated in one room school houses and attended Springville High School. Married life took her to Utah, Idaho, Iowa, and finally California where her husband opened a Chiropractic practice. For the next 15 years Bessie was her husband's office receptionist and assistant. Bessie was president of the California Chiropractic Auxiliary Association for three years and was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held positions with the youth, the Relief Society, and the Sunday School Board.
During World War II, many wartime weddings were performed in the Lund living room with her husband as Bishop presiding. In later years she started her own business organizing and decorating for local wedding receptions. Their home was always open for activities and dinners. Christmas and New Years were especially festive. One of her finest qualities was that of peacemaker.
Viewing will be Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 9 a.m. with services following at 10 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. Interment in the Salt Lake City.
