I feel exasperated when the Delta Air Lines board of directors delights in giving its CEO a termination bonus in the tens of millions of dollars and wants its pilots to take a 30 percent cut in pay or face bankruptcy.

I am vexed when a congressional committee wants to fire the Defense Department for the misdeeds of a one-stripe soldier.

I am inflamed when senior senators of one persuasion or the other challenge the commander in chief in time of war.

I am titillated to the point of giggling when a certain candidate for president of the United States — almost without exception— entrances his audiences with the phrase, "When I served in Vietnam."

Now I feel better.
