SPANISH FORK — A 650-pound steer ran loose through Spanish Fork's downtown for about two hours Saturday afternoon.
It is unclear how the steer, which was first spotted near Spanish Fork High School, 99 N. 300 West, freed itself, said Spanish Fork Police Sgt. Brandon Anderson.
The steer meandered through the city, eventually making its way to the city cemetery near 400 South and 500 East. A farmer who has a tranquilizer gun was called to the cemetery before the steer started "knocking down head stones and causing damage or hurting someone," said Alan Williams, another farmer on hand to help.
The first shot from the tranquilizer gun was a miss. The second was successful. The animal was hauled away and farmers were determining where it belonged, Williams said.
