South Salt Lake police have arrested a second man allegedly involved in a series of attempted home invasion robberies.

Last week, a 44-year-old man was arrested following a chase with police after a woman was robbed at knifepoint in her house and the robber tried to break into a second house.

The man initially tried to get away in a van driven by another person. He jumped out and ran but was later captured.

Tuesday, police investigators caught the alleged driver of the van thanks to an anonymous tip. A person who heard news reports of the home invasion called police with the name of a 42-year-old man who drove a vehicle like the one used in the incident and who was a friend of the man arrested, said South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Steve Daniels.

Detectives went to the man's house and arrested him without incident. Daniels said the man admitted to being the driver in the van and fleeing from officers but claimed to have no knowledge of what his friend was doing.

"He claims his friend just jumped in the vehicle and yelled, 'Go, go go. The police are chasing me,' but he had no idea why," Daniels said.

The van driver was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of fleeing and other charges.
