Della S. Furness our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother passed away May 14, 2004 at the Christus St. Joseph Villa of congestive heart failure.

Della, age 89, born July 14, 1914 to Daniel G. Spencer and Hazel Valentine Spencer in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was married to her sweetheart John E. Furness on June 11, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple just shy of 68 wonderful years.

She is survived by her husband John; son, Roger (Sharon); daughters, Mary Furness and Martha (Wayne) Smith; daughter-in-law, Sharon (Sherri) Furness; sisters, Thelma (Al) Johnson and Lucille McLelland; sister-in-law, Phyllis Spencer; brother-in-law Milton DeGering. Besides her four children, she has 12 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 13 great-grand children; two step-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her son, John Edmund (Ed) Furness Jr., one brother, four sisters, and four brothers-in-law.

An active member of the LDS Church, she held many positions, including Ward Relief Society president. She was a devoted wife, mother and sister who excelled at making her family and friends feel loved and cherished. When she was first married she worked on theater row and after her family was raised, she worked for Granite School District Food Services until retiring at age 65.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 12:00 noon at the Salt Lake Foothill Stake Center, 1930 S. 2100 E. Friends may call Wednesday, from 7-9 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr. and Thursday from 10:45-11:45 at the Stake Center. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
