Upstate Freshwater Institute research scientists load sensors onto a survey buoy on Otisco Lake, N.Y. The survey buoy is used to monitor the water and could have implications for improving homeland security. A network of underwater robots could soon replace the researchers, whose job is time-consuming and sometimes dangerous.
