The Utah PTA will present the 2004 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Education next week to six of Utah's top educators and two exceptional volunteers. The awards will be aired on KUED-Channel 7 Friday, May 28, at 9 p.m., repeating Sunday, May 30, at 4 p.m.

The program features the awards ceremony, in combination with on-site footage shot at the winners' schools. Honorees include:

Barbara Abbott, a second-grade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary, Logan District; Curtis Payne, a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher and choir director at Sunset Elementary, St. George, in Washington District; Barbara Haun, a sixth-grade teacher at McMillan Elementary, Murray District; Derald Kurtz, an elementary media specialist at Blanding Elementary, San Juan District; Jeanne McGuire, a choral director at Viewmont High School, Bountiful, in Davis District; Jay S. Allen, a science teacher and department chairman at American Fork High School, Alpine District; Lisa K. Anderson, a volunteer at Rocky Mountain Elementary, Lindon, in Alpine District; and Linda Hixon, a volunteer at Lake Powell K-12 School, Kane District.

Winners are selected from nominees from every school in Utah. The awards are made possible by NuSkin Enterprises, Utah Education Network, Educators Mutual Insurance Association and the Utah Education Association.
