1922 ~ 2004

Jean Curtis Barger, 81, passed away Friday, May 14, 2004 in American Fork, Utah. A long-time resident of Treasureton, Idaho, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Nelson Barger.

She was born in Richfield, Utah to Myreel Potter and Alva Curtis on August 29, 1922. Most of her growing up years were spent in Salt Lake City, Utah where she attended business college and graduated from the University of Utah. Jean then taught school for several years. Jean and Don were married in the Logan LDS Temple November 22, 1957.

Active in the LDS church her entire life, Jean served in the Northern States Mission as a young woman. She also fulfilled callings in leadership, teaching and music in the church. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing and participated in many choirs, including the Symphony Singers in Salt Lake City. She was also involved in the community serving as PTA President, President of the Franklin County 4-H council, and secretary of the Franklin County Library Board.

She is survived by sons, Donald Barger Jr., Treasureton; Darrel (Nancy) Barger, Mesa AZ; Barry (Christine) Barger, Lehil daughters, Karlene (Mark) Burton, San Antonio, TX; and Myreel (Ron) Nielson, North Salt Lake; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Gordon Curtis, Mesa, AZ; Gerald Curtis, Salt Lake City; and David Curtis, Crestline, CA;

sisters, Marilyn Child, Salt Lake City; and Sara Nadine Beckstrom, South Weber, Ut. Her sister, Gloria Gough, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2004 in the Riverdale Chapel (5 miles north of Preston on Highway 34). Friends and family may call Wednesday, evening at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Treasureton Cemetery.
