1924 ~ 2004
Glen Hacking Calder, 79, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2004 after 28 years of courageously battling Lou Gehrig's disease.
Glen was born to Leo and Lucile Hacking Calder on July 25, 1924 in Vernal, Utah. He was a veteran of World War II. He served an LDS Mission to the Southwest States. He married Shirley Marie Smith on September 19, 1952 in the LDS Logan Temple. Glen taught Civil Engineering at BYU for 36 years and loved experimental projects and working with his grandchildren in the garden. Glen served faithfully throughout his life in various church callings.
He is survived by Marie (Jim) Ricks, Judy (Steve) Shipp, Glen (Meridee) Calder, David (Connie) Calder, Gary (Heidi) Calder, Linda (Scott) Sumsion, Irene (Brent) Hauver, Diane (Chris) Groberg and 42 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Shirley Marie Smith Calder and grandson, Evan James Ricks.
The funeral will be held Friday, May 21, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mapleton North Stake Center, 450 N. 1600 W. (US 89), Mapleton, Utah. Friends and family may call at the Wheeler Mortuary (211 E. 200 S. Springville) on Thursday, May 20 from 6 - 8:00 p.m. or Friday at the church from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Interment will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
