One of a Kind
James Noble Kimball, age 69, passed away May 16th at home, in the arms of his loving family.
He was born on a ranch in La Verkin, Utah to Abram Noble and Louise Kimball, who have preceded him in death.
If you met Jim once you would always remember him. From waitresses to government officials, everyone loved him. His unique qualities allowed him to enter into the hearts of those he met. His constant wit and ability to make people laugh have left all of us with fond memories.
Jim graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees in Political Science and American History, which he loved to teach at various schools and Universities. Midway through college he served a LDS mission to Australia and wrote for the Austral Star. Since then he has been twice a Bishop, once a Bishop's Counselor, and held many other Church callings.
Next to armchair politics Jim loved to write and tell stories about his great Uncle, J. Golden Kimball. He published a number of articles relating to his foreign travels, media relations, business experiences, and humanitarian work. He served as the travel editor for Utah Holiday Magazine and wrote a weekly travel column for the Deseret News. Dialogue gave him a Distinguished Literary Award for Non Fiction Writing.
On December 28th, 1959 he married Joan Capener. They have two sons and one daughter, Edward J. Kimball (Paige- Eli, Jacob, Asher and Lilly), John G. Kimball (Allyson- Abram and Lucy), and Amy L. Kimball. He is also survived by his sister, Carol L. Klas.
His children knew him as a compassionate and understanding father, but more importantly, a best friend. His constant selfless support has seen them through to full and happy lives. He acted as a surrogate father to many of their friends as well his students and members of the student wards he served.
His grandchildren affectionately called him "mosquito" as he buzzed and chased them around the yard, tickling them when they were caught.
The Kimball family wishes to thank IHC Hospice nurse Ann Martineau and health aids Catherine, Mike, Gayle, and Arlene who provided tender care.
A family burial will take place on Friday. The memorial services will be held Saturday, May 22nd at 1p.m. at the Federal Heights Ward. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at 12 noon.
