Wendell D. Ross, (Maj. US Air Force Retired) passed away peacefully, Friday, May 14, 2004, in Richfield, Utah.

He was born February 10, 1921, to Donald and Pearl Waters Ross, in Clear Creek Canyon near Sevier, Utah, and grew up where the Fremont Indian State Park is now located. He married Gladys Green, September 20, 1941, in Ely Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, June 24, 1943. He is a graduate of South Sevier High School, Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, and National Tech School in Los Angeles and attended two years at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He was a veteran of World War II and Korean War. He served as bombardier, navigator, and electronic countermeasures officer on B17, B29 and B52 bombers for the Strategic Air Command (SAC).

He was the Beaver County Treasurer for two years prior to being recalled to the service for the Korean conflict and also served as the city electrician for Beaver City. He was manager and fixed base operator at Ely, Nevada airport where he flew charter service, air ambulance and was a flight instructor. He retired as an electronic technician from the Bureau of Land Management serving all of Southern Utah.

He served in various LDS Church positions. He helped organize the Loring Branch, Limestone, Maine in the New England Mission, where he was the first Branch President. He also served as First Counselor in the Bishopric in the Ely 2nd Ward in Ely, Nevada. Other positions included Treasurer of the Stake High Priests Quorum in Richfield, Young Men's president and received his Master M-Men award for church service. He and his wife Gladys served an LDS Mission to the Family History Center in Salt Lake City and were ordinance workers for over six years at the Manti LDS Temple.

Wendell loved to play music and could play several musical instruments. He belonged to several bands where he played and sang at dances over the years. He and his wife are current members of the Old Time Fiddlers Association.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Gladys, Richfield; sons, David (Susan) Ross; Roger Ross; Paul Dean (Mary) Ross; Russell (Lucinda) Ross; daughter, Rinda (Joe) Viveros; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Coy and Dale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph Ross; daughter-in-law, Alayne Ross; infant son Robin Ross; Grandson, Jeffrey Ross.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Richfield 7th LDS Ward Chapel, 159 N. 400 W. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary, 50 S. 100 W. in Richfield, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at the Mortuary on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be with military rites by V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050 in the Richfield City Cemetery.
