"A MUSICAL RETRO SHOW," Midvale Copperview Youth Program's summer musical revue, today, 7-9 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon, at the Copperview Community Center, 8446 S. Harrison St. (272 West). Wendy Dahl-Smedshammer is directing.
Come prepared to sing 16 bars of an upbeat song. An accompanist will be provided or bring your own music on a CD or tape. Play dates are Aug. 12-14 at Historic Wheeler Farm (561-0075).
"CHARLY, A LOVE SONG," a new musical version of Jack Wayland's popular novel, "Charly," Saturday, 1-4 p.m. at Draper Historic Theatre, 12366 S. 900 East.
Come prepared to sing 16 bars of music. An accompanist and CD player will be provided. There will also be cold readings from the script. Play dates are July 29-Aug. 28 (572-4611).
"GRABNET 2," Eric Jensen's sequel to his "Dragnet" parody, on Saturday, noon-3 p.m. at the Off Broadway Theatre, 272 S. Main. All roles are open except those of Joe Thursday (Jensen) and Frank Smith (Russ Peacock).
Come prepared with 16 bars of an upbeat song. Bring a current head shot and resume. Excerpts from the script may be downloaded from the theater's Web site at www.theobt.com. Mike Brown is directing. Play dates are June 25-July 31 on Fridays and Saturdays.
"THE STAR SPANGLED GIRL," on Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon, at the Columbus Center, 2531 S. 500 East, for the female role only. Both male roles in the Wasatch Theatre Company production of Neil Simon's three-person comedy have been cast.
Needed is an actress who can play an age range between 20 and 35. There will be cold readings from the script. Play dates are late July through early August (446-5657).
EMERSON-SMITH COLLEGE'S varied lineup of "summer-stock" productions, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Villa Theatre, 254 S. Main, Springville. Provo-based ESC is producing six shows, which will be staged during the next few months at both the Villa and the Young Living Farm in Mona.
The plays are "Robin Hood: the Musical," Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," "The Medicine Show" (a Western comedy), "The Three Princes" (a fantasy focusing on the princes' views on Cinderella, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty), "The Princess Bride" and a Caribbean-style "Pirates of Penzance." Auditioners may try out for one show or all six (435-229-5916).
