At Eagle Mountain, John Taylor knocked off two-time defending champion Doug Marriott 1-up in the first round of the UGA Senior Match Play Championship Tuesday at The Ranches Golf Club.
Taylor, who plays out of East Bay, bumped Marriott out of the tournament after he had won eight straight matches over the past two years.
Another upset victim was Dee Reynolds, who was the medalist the day before with a 70 in the qualifying round. Pete Houdeshel edged him 2 and 1.
Other first-day winners in the gross division included Rich Gibbons, Craig Crosland, Dennis Wood, Allen Simkins, Kent Christopher and Gene Ryzewicz.
The winner of the Senior Match Play qualifies for the Utah team in the Utah-Arizona Shootout in September.
