Jason Richards claims that if Americans saw more of the distasteful images from war, we'd be more opposed to war. I think not. People used to come in crowds to watch hangings and, before that, beheadings.

Human minds adjust to the kind of things they see frequently, and they lose their impact.

Personally, I think that we need to be reminded that war is a terrible thing, lest we glamorize it, but I also think that we need to harden ourselves to some extent, because we will probably always be called upon to fight for freedom. War is sometimes forced upon us by attacks on us or our allies. When it is, we shouldn't be deterred by our own squeamishness from fighting to win and eliminate those who have forced it upon us.
