An unidentified driver suspected in two shootings shot himself outside Wendover after a brief standoff with police. His condition was unknown.

Authorities stopped a vehicle late Wednesday they believed was driven by a man responsible for shooting two people in Tooele County.

The older, maroon car with a white top was stopped about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday on I- 80, about 12 miles east of the Nevada state line, Tooele County spokesman Wade Mathews said.

About 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 17-year-old girl was found with a gunshot wound in her chest. The girl, a Laundromat employee, was airlifted to University Hospital. She was unconscious and her condition was not known, Mathews said.

The second shooting occurred about two hours later at a gas station/restaurant off the I-80 exit at Delle, about 70 miles from the state line. A 58-year-old female clerk was shot, Mathews said. Her condition was not known.

The shootings were considered related.

The car was stopped outside Wendover after a chase with law enforcement, Mathews said. The chase was precipitated by a massive, three-hour search for the man.
