SOUTHWORTH, Wash. (AP) — A suspicious device was removed from a skiff near a state ferry terminal west of Seattle early Friday, and ferry service that had been canceled during the scare was allowed to resume, authorities said.

The device was a battery with wires leading into a bottle containing an unknown liquid, Washington State Patrol Lt. Helmut Steele said.

A bomb squad "rendered the device safe" and it was removed for further investigation, Steele said. He would not provide additional details.
