This past weekend, June 4-6, Utah hosted a national sporting event where athletes competed for three days, all vying for a spot on the USA national team.

You wouldn't know it from reading the sports page. You didn't see it on the local evening sports news. It was the Junior World Team Archery Trials, hosted by our own Utah Hot Shots at Salt Lake Archery Co. and sponsored by local companies Hoyt USA and Easton, who manufacture archery equipment.

What a great event this was! Held at the magnificent new Deseret Peaks recreation complex 12 miles west of Tooele, competitors enjoyed sunny weather, light breezes and excellent outdoor shooting conditions. More than 100 competitors attended.

The team that was chosen will be sent to the 2004 World Junior outdoor Target Championships to be held July 18-24 in Lilleshall, England. That the local sports media missed this tremendous event is simply a shame.
