Margaret Yu, a researcher at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and visiting instructor in the Department of Oncological Sciences at the University of Utah School of Medicine, has been awarded the ASCO Clinical Research Career Development award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

The $170,000 grant funds her research for three years on the relationship between chronic lymphocytic leuke- mia, a disorder of the white blood cells that usually affects people over 50, and DNA methylation.

Fifteen researchers around the country were given the award from a pool of 57 applicants. The award is given to physicians in their second to fourth year as full-time faculty members. They are chosen for unique approaches to clinically oriented cancer research, a high likelihood of success in clinical trials and accomplishment in independent research.

Yu joined the U. faculty in July 2003.
