"Always a Gentleman"
Charles Matthews "Matt" Daily passed away peacefully on Father's Day, June 20, 2004, surrounded by family at the age of 79.
He was born April 7, 1925 in Bangor, Maine to Charles P. Daily and Agatha Matthews.
Matt is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife, constant companion and best friend of 58 years, Irene McCarthy Daily, their three children, Daniel (Kathy) Daily, Mauritia (Tom) Stephens and Joseph (Joanie) Daily, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Known for always being a gentleman, his greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family, especially family vacations, which included several coast-to-coast adventures. Matt had a joke for every occasion and even in his final days would tell some of his old favorites. During World War II, he served as a B-24 flight engineer and gunner and was decorated for heroism. He loved his country, was proud to have served and humbled to have survived. He graduated from the University of Main then completed graduate work at the University of Arizona. He had a long and successful career with Kennecott Copper in California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. He finished his career as a mining consultant working with many gold and silver mines all over the western United States.
Matt was the greatest husband, father and "grampy" anyone could ever have. He will be greatly missed.
His family is very thankful for the time spent with him.
Funeral services will be held at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 1375 E. Spring Lane, at 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 26. Friends are welcome to visit with the family one hour prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
