Bravo to the editorial board of the Deseret Morning News! Sunday's commentary referring to the excessive invasion of privacy by airport security was right on target.
It shouldn't be a secret to anyone that fear makes people talk. If you frighten them enough, they'll tell you whatever you want to know. That was our plan at Abu Ghraib. The mafia uses it, too, if the movies have accurately portrayed it.
I am astonished at the ease with which loyal and trusting citizens have knowingly (and unknowingly) exchanged some of their liberties for the illusion of more security. Is this happening so the planes will run on time?
