Melba Melvina Penrod Jensen, 90, our loving "Grandma in the Pink House", died July 18, 2004 in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Born August 3, 1913 in a log cabin in Liberty, Utah in Weber County to Oliver Allen Penrod and Mary Eliza Knighton. She married Harold Leroy Jensen November 29, 1929. Harold died September 3, 1951.
Melba returned to school and graduated from Central Utah Vocational School in 1955. She worked as a nurse for many years to support herself and her sons.
Her greatest joys were her family and her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many ward and stake music callings, including director of the Stake Singing Mothers. She served a health mission in the Dakota-Manitoba Mission from 1973-75. She was a name extraction missionary for over 15 years and taught the Gospel Doctrine class in Goshen for many years. One of her highlights of her life was a visit to the Holy Land in 1981.
Melba is survived by four sons, Vern (Cola), Blaine (Ann), Gary (Verlyn), and Kent (Jaci); a daughter-in-law, Connie, and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn. Also survived by 20 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Harold, a son, Dennis, a grandson, Gary Lynn, and a great granddaughter, Brittney.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in the Goshen, Utah LDS Ward. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Holladay-Brown Funeral Home, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin, and Thursday morning at the Goshen Ward from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Goshen cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Melba requested contributions be made to the ward missionary fund.
