Erla Young, age 85, one of Utah's oldest practicing female artists, garnered both People's Choice Awards in the Days of '47/Deseret Morning News Landscape Art Show, "Color of the Land."
Young's oil paintings, "Golden Afternoon" and "Warm Springs — Midway" were on display in the Bonneville Room and the Nauvoo Room of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building through Saturday. Each is a heartfelt rendition of the land she has known and loved for many years.
This is the first year a People's Choice Award category has been offered as part of the landscape show. In the three days gallery visitors had the opportunity to cast their ballots, more than 800 voiced their opinions.
Due to its popularity, the People's Choice Award will continue to be part of the exhibition jurying process.
