Wayne Unsworth Sanford, age 78, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2004 in a Bountiful hospital of heart failure.

Wayne was born January 20, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frederick Charles and Mary Alice Unsworth Sanford. He attended Onequa Elementary, Jackson Jr. High and graduated from West High School in 1943. Wayne married Nadine Todd of Modesto, California on April 2, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Nadine passed away on March 27, 1999 in Bountiful, Utah.

Wayne served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 - 1946. He was a Top Turret Gunner with the Squadron VPB 198-Crows Landing, CA.

Wayne started his career with Utah Paper Box Co. in 1943. Except for time he served in the U.S. Navy, he's been with Utah Paper Box Co. Starting as a plant laborer, eventually becoming Executive Vice-President. Selling was his passion. He retired July of 2003 after 60 years of service.

His professional accomplishments include being President of the Utah State Umpire's Association and of the Intermountain Credit Men's Association. He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Credit Management and of the National Paperbox Association and has been Chairman of the Board of the National Paperbox Association.

His civic duties include Chairman of the Police Youth Council, Bountiful City, and Chairman of the Police Advisory Board, Bountiful City.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as the first bishop of the Bountiful 27 Ward and served on the All Church Athletic Committee and as Director of the Central Utah and Utah North Area Athletic Committees, reporting directly to the First Presidency.

Wayne was Top Salesman of his Class at LDS Business College, the 1988 Credit Manager of the Year, National Association of Credit Mgmt, 1991 National Paperbox Assoc. Outstanding Service Award, and the 1999 National Paperbox Association & Package Printing & Converting Magazine, C. Taylor Kew Leadership Award.

He has been generous throughout his whole life with his time, his talents and possessions.

Keeping close family relationships was his highest priority. He has been successful in creating priceless memories.

He is survived by his children: LaRene (Kim) Tovey; Darryl (Tracy) Sanford; Gayle (Kerry) Smith; Jolane (George) Scheib; Kerry (Evelyn) Sanford; Ryan (Karen) Sanford; also survived by 34 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful 31 Ward Chapel, 585 E. Center Street. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and at the church on Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
