CLINTON — Police were searching Tuesday for a man who followed a 13-year-old girl to the store and home.

"He didn't say anything, didn't try to do anything to her," Clinton police detective Dean Livingston said, but it left the girl uneasy and police are concerned.

The girl left her house near 1800 North and 1000 West about 12:30 p.m. and passed a park where a man sat on a picnic bench. He got up and followed her, Livingston said.

The girl walked to pay phones at a convenience store and dialed a friend. The man entered the store, purchased a drink, left the store and then waited for the girl by the phones, Livingston said.

The man followed her to her home, where she locked the doors and watched him pace her street, stopping to stare. After 10 minutes, he left.

Police believe the story is legitimate because the girl immediately identified the man on store surveillance video.

The man is described as white, in his 30s or 40s, heavy-set with a dark-colored mullet that reaches the back of his neck. He wore a dark-colored baseball cap. He may have facial hair, Livingston said. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
