Maintaining values
Though he wouldn't comment on the rape investigation involving the "Team Down South," Utah coach Urban Meyer acknowledged the news prompted a reminder to the Utes.
"That afternoon I dealt with it again. That's something that falls under our core values. We have four core values that we feel very strongly about. And that's something we address," said Meyer. "The same day that happened, USC had the same thing. I check ESPN.com every day and I'm amazed at the stuff that goes on. And that's a coach's worst nightmare."
Meyer hopes to combat such possibilities at Utah by having many meetings and many discussions with his players.
"I've kind of identified the guys that are from different backgrounds that I'm from and that Utah is from and so I've sat down with them," he said. "Matter of fact, I sat down with a couple of kids (Friday) night."
The message? Maintain the team's core values.
"You have to understand," he told them. "Or you won't be here."
Final positioning
Who'll start against Texas A&M? Barring unexpected circumstances, Meyer said the latest depth chart—expected to be released this morning—will contain the answers.
As he left the practice field Saturday night, Meyer said Utah's first unit has been solidifed. The same, however, cannot be said for back-ups.
"We're really disappointed in some of the 2's right now," said Meyer. "So we have some issues and obviously injuries take a toll, but our 1's are set."
The Utes complete two-a-days this afternoon and have a scrimmage (closed to the public) on Tuesday. Classes begin Wednesday.
Ute Fan Fest
