Fred Mitsuru Matsuda, age 74, passed away August 19, 2004.
Fred was born on January 16, 1930 in Hood River, Oregon to Uichi and Hatsuyo Matsuda. He was a quiet, unassuming and hard-working gentleman who was generous, thoughtful and courteous to a fault. His kindness and sensitivity to the feelings of others was constant even during the days of his most difficult and painful battles with pancreatic cancer. He could muster a smile and a word of sincere thanks in the worst of times. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Fred served in the army during the Korean conflict. He actually retired twice, completing a career with Kennecott Copper Company in Utah and then moving to California where he went back to work for the Castro Valley School District.
Fred is survived by his son, Steve, his daughter JoAnn and her husband, Floyd Vigil, his grandchildren, Anthony, Sean and Lee Vigil and by his sisters, Fumi Takayama and Sada Nakagawa, Sada's husband Tom, his brother, Jimmie Matsuda and Jimmie's wife Yaeko and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the extraordinary care given by Life Path Hospice and also special thanks to the family caregivers who attended Fred's needs so personally and lovingly.
A memorial service will be held at Wasatch Lawn at 3201 South Highland Drive in Salt Lake City on Saturday, August 28, 2004, at 12:00 noon.
