"Together Again"
If one word could describe a human life, then the best word to describe Elda Nelson Hadfield would be
"patience"<! > . She was patient in the nurturing of her six children and an adopted daughter. She was patient in the support of her sweetheart, Dale W. Hadfield. She was patient in her physical limitations, enduring her hearing loss and neuropathy with a sweet positive attitude. She was patient in waiting and had faith in God's plan for her.
Elda was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah on March 29, 1912 to Carl Antone Nelson and Elnora Nielsen. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1930 and worked as a telephone operator for five years. She was the third of six children: Gene Nelson (deceased); Marie Johnson (deceased); Afton Furden (deceased); LaRue Novak of Salt Lake City; and Ruby Rosier of American Fork.
Elda met Dale on a hike to the top of Mt. Timpanogos. It was her first and his lucky 13th hike. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1934.
Elda was content and happy to be a homemaker. She loved quilting, canning, baking bread, and rocking babies. She was diligent in her church callings. She passed away on August 1, 2004 in the American Fork Hospital. The family extends their love and gratitude to her caregivers and friends at Heritage Care Center.
