"Together Again"
DRAPER/SANDY<! >
- Muriel Hannah Smith, our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was called home to her Father in Heaven on July 30, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born September 7, 1921 in Murray, Utah to George and Hannah Peterson James. She attended school in Murray and Married DeVar Bennett Smith on June 9, 1939; they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 3, 1939. Six children, each of whom she had a special bond with, were born of that union. The family she leaves behind is a tribute to them both. Muriel will be remembered for her love of flowers and gardening, her sense of humor, her strength and dignity and her keen intellect. She had many friends, and was once described by a grandson as a "social butterfly."
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings including a two year Stake Mission with her eternal companion DeVar; she was also a dedicated visiting teacher. She was loved and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children: Doris (Delbert) Butler, Enumclaw, Washington; Ivan (Gay) Smith, Blackfoot, Idaho; David (Mary) Smith, Venice, Utah; Carol (John) White, Gold Canyon, Arizona; Renee Smith, Salt Lake City; 24 grandchildren; 39 great- grandchildren; sisters, Fern MacKay (Jim, deceased), June Parker (Wayne), Marie Borg (Frank, deceased). Preceded in death by her husband, DeVar; daughter, Marilyn; parents, George and Hannah James; sister, Lila; brothers, Ivan and Judd.
