A teenage girl was killed when her car hydroplaned across I-215 Tuesday night, flipped and landed in oncoming traffic.

Killed was:

Jenna M. Barenbrugge, 17, Salt Lake City.

About 6:55 p.m., Barenbrugge was traveling west on the freeway near 1300 East in an area where there had been a three-car accident. Traffic slowed due to that crash. A downpour left standing water on the road, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Wade Breur said.

The driver overtook slowing traffic and swerved to the left, losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle hydroplaned and hit a concrete barrier. The vehicle rode up onto the barrier and hit the concrete pillar supporting the 1300 East structure, Breur said.

The girl was killed on impact, Breur said. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.

Lanes in both directions of the freeway were closed for three hours after the accident for investigation and cleanup. Traffic was diverted, Breur said.
