Perhaps, because I am a Vietnam era combat veteran (B-52 crew member, 1968) I can make a point about John Kerry that non-veterans may be reluctant to make: His constant campaign reference to his four months in Vietnam is bizarre. That was 35 years ago! If I talked about my experiences in the war as often as he does, my wife, children, and neighbors would have me committed.

It is possible, I suppose, that he is focusing on the distant past because if the focus were on the recent past he would find his election prospects poor.

I just offer this advice: Beware of anyone who seeks credit for what he did 35 years, veteran, or not.
