Obituary: Kent C. Thompson


Kent "Doc" Christensen Thompson, age 71, passed away September 15, 2004 from a stroke while working out at the gym; he died as he lived, in activity.

Born May 31, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of Wesley Peter and Eva Leila

Christensen Thompson. Married Ida Louise Mortensen July 22, 1960 in the Manti Temple; she preceded him in death. Married Jacquelyn B. Hayes January 6, 2000 in the Jordan River Temple. Kent was a dentist, in Sandy, for 40 years, past president Utah State Dental Association, board member of the Salt Lake Donated Dental Services, Recipient Silver Beaver Award and graduate of Northwestern University. He had a firm testimony of Jesus Christ. He served in bishoprics, scouting and in missionary service. He was politically active in the Republican Party. He had a vitality for life and lived life to the fullest. Dad was an avid outdoors man, horseman and heli-skier. He taught his children and grandchildren how to ski, hunt, fish and the value of work. He savored every ski run. He had a large orchard and garden and freely gave away thousands of pounds of his produce. He was a great motivator and inspiration to those who met him. He was a phenomenal father and husband.

Survived by wife, Jacquelyn; children, Michelle, Wes K. (Michelle), Erick O. (Rachelle) and Chad M. (DawnEtta); 27 grandchildren; brothers, W. Peter (Beverly) Thompson and Don A. (Linda) Thompson; stepchildren, Jenny (Brook) Thomson, Noe' (Charles) Andrews, Aimee' (Darin) Lewis and Michael Erickson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the Sandy Midvalley Stake, 8050 South 1100 East. Friends may offer condolences to the family at the church, Friday, 7-9:00 p.m. and Saturday at the church, 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to service. Graveside service will be held at 3:15 p.m. at the Ephraim Park Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
