Kira Lazenby
Payson Lions
Sport: Soccer
Class: Senior
Position: Midfielder/Goalie
The numbers: Lazenby started the year off in goal for the Lions, but was moved to midfielder when coach Lee Gillie decided he needed her ball control. "She's a very skilled player and has the talent to make other players around her better," Gillie said. The move has paid dividends for the Lions. In Lazenby's first game away from goal she scored a goal and had an assist in Payson's 2-1 win over American Fork. In the Lions 6-2 upset of Provo, Lazenby scored a hat trick. In total, she's scored four goals and has two assists since the move to midfielder three games ago.
Don Lovelace
Mountain View Bruins
Sport: Football
Class: Senior
Position: Quarterback
The numbers: Lovelace's throwing and running ability has been a bright spot for the Bruins' offense this season. The senior quarterback has tossed for 786 yards and four touchdowns in five games. He's also rushed for two TDs. In last week's thrilling overtime win over Layton, Lovelace had 233 yards passing and 299 yards of total offense. His 25-yard scoring toss to Steve Loveland in the extra period was the game winner. "He's an intelligent player who sees the field well and makes good decisions," coach Doug Meek said. "He also leads by example and not just by voice."
