After 14 years, the Arizona-Utah Shootout is once again "all square."

Arizona coasted to a 40 1/2 to 31 victory over Utah at The Gallery in Tucson. The Arizona team jumped out to a huge lead in the Monday morning segment of fourball matches and coasted to victory. The Arizonans took a commanding 16-2 lead in fourball and still led 24-12 after the foursomes in the afternoon.

Utah's 12-person team came back to win the singles on Tuesday 19 1/2 to 16 1/2, but it still left the Utahns nine points behind overall.

Using the Nassau scoring system, a point for the front, a point for the back, and a point for the 18, Pete Stone was the biggest point-getter for Utah with 5 1/2 points. Stone was playing in the event for third straight year, and he swept his singles match for the third straight year, 3-0 over Morgan Brown.

Other sweeps for Utah came in the singles for Kent Christopher and Michael Mahoney sweeping the Arizona seniors. Stone and Kirk Siddens, Dan Horner and Herb Lyons, and Clark Rustand and Ben Aguayo missed sweeps by just a half-point in the foursome segment.

Rustand was also a half-pointshort of sweep in Singles.

Half of Utah's team was playing in their first Shootout, including Christopher, Aguayo, Horner, Rustand, Rick Lloyd and Nicole Newren-Chandler.
