Britney Spears' dream wedding last weekend really was a fairy tale.

The 22-year-old pop star may have said "I do" to dancer Kevin Federline, 26, last Saturday, but because of a legal technicality and a hang-up over a prenuptial agreement, she isn't married — yet.

The convoluted story unfolded Wednesday.

Spears and Federline haggled over a prenuptial agreement protecting her $123 million fortune until the last minute last weekend. According to California law, a prenup isn't legally binding until after a seven-day waiting period. But the couple didn't want to wait.

So, according to Us magazine, they signed a legal document that states: "Britney Spears and Kevin Federline . . . agree that they intend to participate in a 'faux' wedding . . . on Sept. 18, 2004; however, they do not intend to and shall not validly marry one another on said date."

When will they be legally married? The seven-day waiting period on the prenup expires Friday, according to People magazine.

Los Angeles attorney Daniel Jaffe says that once the minister who officiated at the wedding signs the license, the marriage will be legitimate.
