Forty-eight Utah high school alumni were on the Utes' roster for the Fiesta Bowl, and this is how they fared in the historic season:
MAKAI AALONA, OL, senior, Cottonwood: Started at right tackle and played in 10 games. Honorable mention all-conference.
KITE AFEAKI, DL, junior, West: Former Weber State Wildcat walked on last spring and was awarded a scholarship by fall. Appeared in 11 games and made one start at defensive end.
MITCH ARQUETTE, OL, sophomore, Davis: Saw action in 10 games. Graded high in games against San Diego State and Colorado State.
BRIGHAM AU, QB, junior, Northridge: Scout teamer made his collegiate debut in Utah's win over UNLV.
DAN BEARDALL, K, junior, American Fork: Walk-on was 2-for-2 in PATs and averaged 34.2 yards on four kickoffs in games against Utah State and North Carolina.
JOHN BECK, TE, junior, Park City: Joined the Utes midway through fall camp after impressing coaches in "Utah Man" tryouts.
JASON BOONE, OL, freshman, Millard: Saw limited action in Utah's final 11 games.
JESSE BOONE, OL, junior, Millard: Started all 12 games at center. Named second-team all-conference. Graduated last May and is now pursuing an MBA.
KYLE BRADY, LB, freshman, Tooele: Played in every game after a redshirt year. Made a career-high six tackles against Utah State.
BLAKE BURDETTE, TE, junior, Olympus: Special teams standout, who blocked a kick in the San Diego State game, and also became Utah's starting tight end.
DAVID CARROLL, K, freshman, Bountiful: Pulled from a redshirt year in mid-October, he was perfect in 44 PATs and five field-goal attempts over the final seven games.
JON CLARK, TE, senior, Viewmont: Capped a collegiate career that included stints at Ricks and Houston. Played in all 12 games, mostly on special teams.
BRAD CLIFFORD, WR, freshman, Olympus: Spent season on scout team.
BROCK CONDIE, SN, junior, Hillcrest: Former Snow College standout was Utah's back-up at long snapper.
STEVE DAHL, OL, sophomore, Skyline: Reserve played in 10 games for the second consecutive season.
COREY DODDS, LB, senior, Hillcrest: Completed two-year run as Utah's starting "stud" linebacker. Had a fumble recovery and an interception this season.
CASEY EVANS, DB, sophomore, Olympus: Special teams star also saw action at safety. Had six tackles in victories over Arizona and Colorado State.
ROB GUECK, WR, sophomore, Springville: Injuries limited his contributions to a single game. Missed spring ball because of a shoulder problem.
JUSTIN HANSEN, TE, junior, North Sanpete: Walk-on limited to scout team duty.
JEFF HATCH, OL, freshman, Bountiful: Newcomer was on scout team.
SINGA ILOA, TE, junior, West: Transfer from Dixie State saw action in three Mountain West Conference games.
CHAD JACOBSEN, TE, junior, Springville: Relegated to scout team while recovering from a knee injury in 2003 that kept him out of spring camp.
ANDREW JOHNSON, OL, junior, Cottonwood: Backup center was part of special teams unit.
BROCK JOHNSON, DB, junior, South Summit: Snow College transfer assisted Utah on the scout team.
BILLY KINSEY, RB, sophomore, Morgan: Walk-on saw most of his action as "Utah Man" on special teams. Played in every game.
PAUL KRUGER, DL, freshman, Timpanogos: Converted quarterback was a redshirt. Plans to serve an LDS Church mission before resuming his career.
ADAM MADSEN, QB, junior, Uintah: Former Dixie State star held the backup job last spring. Wound up rushing the ball once for four yards.
JOHN MADSEN, WR, junior, Taylorsville: Hard to believe he didn't play high school football. Scored a touchdown in the Fiesta Bowl and four in the regular season.
ZAC MAROLD, DB, freshman, Brighton: True freshman saw scout team duty.
GRADY MARSHALL, LB, junior, Skyline: Special teams star blocked a team-high three punts. Also saw reserve time at linebacker.
CURTIS MCENTIRE, K, sophomore, South Summit: Walk-on completed his second season on the scout team.
PATE MOLENI, DE, freshman, Hunter: Redshirted. Freshman worked with the scout team after returning from an LDS Church mission.
BO NAGAHI, DB, senior, Skyline: Record-setting kick returner started eight games at cornerback. Scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery against BYU.
BRADY NIELSON, DB, junior, Manti: Snow College transfer worked with scout team.
SEAN O'CONNELL, LB, junior, Jordan: Southern Utah transfer was part of scout team squad.
ERIC PETTIT, OL, sophomore, West Jordan: First lineman off the bench played in nine games. He made three starts. Had three knockdowns against UNLV.
SIONE POUHA, DL, senior, East: Closed out a stellar career by earning first-team all-conference honors. Team captain made 13 tackles in win over Air Force.
DMITRY PREOBRAZHENSKY, LB, junior, Olympus: Former Dixie State star went from part-time Deseret Morning News employee to play in 10 games for the Utes.
BRENT RAWLINGS, P, freshman, Alta: Back-up punter, a redshirt freshman, worked with Utah's scout team.
DERREK RICHARDS, WR, freshman, American Fork: Fastest Ute with 4.25 speed in the 40. Walk-on proved valuable on special teams. Had two catches as a receiver.
COLT SAMPSON, LB, freshman, Pleasant Grove: Redshirt freshman worked with the scout teams after serving an LDS Church mission.
MORGAN SCALLEY, DB, senior, Highland: The Mountain West Conference's co-Defensive Player of the Year tallied six interceptions. Scored touchdowns on a kickoff return and a fumble recovery.
AMEEN SHAHEEN, WR, junior, North Sevier: Transfer from Snow College was a scout teamer.
JOSH SMART, K, freshman, Brighton: Scout team player made contributions in practice.
NIK SONNTAG, DE, sophomore, Olympus: Saw action in nine games in first season of eligibility since transferring from Oregon State.
JESSE TASSAINER, DL, junior, American Fork: Appeared in four regular season games after transferring to Utah from Snow College.
STEVE TATE, DB, sophomore, Skyline: Walk-on wound up as a redshirt. Transferred to Utah from Utah State after serving an LDS Church mission.
DYMOND UNUTOA, DB, sophomore, Skyline: Played in four regular season games after spending 2003 as a redshirt. Began his career at Grinnell College.
